Nature at it’s Best

This is for Amy

April 23rd, 2011

Today I’m missing Paris, my second home.

I felt the first cool breeze of the coming winter in Melbourne today and it reminded me of my Winter in Paris last year.

I miss… the sharp icy wind hitting me in the face as I walk around the corner on my way to the market or Metro.

I miss… warm afternoons in the apartment listening to French tv with amazing foods, especially real baguettes and Frazier-res from the Patisserie across the road

I miss…being under the Eiffel, small cars and the little carnival nearby

I miss… the art , the artists, Surrealists, Dada….

I miss… collecting street litter with David ,street art, photographing underground spaces, junk collecting and Mont Martre

I miss… big woolly coats, scarves and boots when slipping in the snow and Champs Elysees.

I miss… creating in my little studio in the corner of the lounge/bedroom I call the “Cubicle” in Paris and the view out my window.

I miss…. visiting family and friends and living with passionate French people and locals and the colours, the smells of my neighborhood .

I miss you Paris but, I will be back again and again because… most of all ,I miss my darling daughter Amy who lives there.

Make Share-Handmade Leftover Trash Books

January 1st, 2011

I have heaps of  travel catalogs that I hate to throw away so I recycle them into notebooks, journals and artist books .I make each book cover as a separate collage piece – OOAK.

I re-use all my jotting and doodling paper I keep beside the computer so when I get a pile I create a book. In my books you may come across scribbles an idea a thought budgets old exhibition invites artist postcards catalog covers pages botched print- outs advertising materials junk mail magazine cut-outs-stickers wallpaper tags and baguette bags from Paris computer keyboard keys old cheque  butts and more……I wire bound them with my binding machine and sometimes I join them with punched holes with ribbons , wire, cord just whatever is around.

They can be used for doodles and sketching to jot things down ideas thoughts lyrics words travel or artists journal whatever u want.

It’s fun making them,I must make more…

Room with a View

December 29th, 2010

“ROOM WITH A VIEW”

The inspiration behind my latest series of screen printed handmade petite cushions…

When I’m in Paris this is the view I see from my bedroom window. Most timesI see a  big grey cat ( la Chat)  scampering over the terracotta rooftops. He jumps from building to building with such grace and balance without any fear at all.

Petite Cushions

Gorgeous hand- made petite cushion made from 100% raw cotton duck canvas. Printed with high quality enviromentally friendly water based fabric inks with French grosgrain ribbon, looped to hang. The silkscreen print was created from my original drawing.

Petite Size – 6×4.5 inches = 16 x 12cm.approx.

Ideas
A touch of French chic for your home.
Hang it from a scrolled hook or door handle.
A unique addition to the boudoir, a brooch or decorative hat pin holder.
Dangle it from your wrist as a generous pin cushion or in the sewing room…

Enjoy your day!

Hand Dying Obsession- Paper Fabric Lace & Doilies

November 6th, 2010

I’ve been obsessed lately with hand dying pieces of cloth, doilies, lace and paper. I use tea, coffee and Parisian essence to age and colour my pieces and then bake them in the oven to give them a lovely vintage feel. I also discovered that Parisian essence is great used as an ink for fancy writing and sketching. I have stacked my collections on recycled cardboard packaging trays in the linen press for future creative projects.

A selection of things I’ve created so far with the hand dyed items.

Little hand dyed calico books with ties.

Lace, doilies,ribbon,trims and fabric .

Pile of hand dyed papers & paper doilies.

Hand dyed fabric flower.

A wall hanging .

A bunch of dirty books.
