Brocante’s in Paris & Vintage French Stuff.

Brocante’s in Paris & Vintage French Stuff.

On my last trip to France in September I bought home 5, 7kg. boxes of stuff, mainly vintage back to Australia.  I am slowly listing some in my shop,  Ateliernostalgi

A couple of times a year the Parisians clear out their apartments and have brocantes (markets) along Seine and in the parks. The local school had a massive market in a park and found modern and vintage stuff.

Early 1900’s fancy French monogram stamps.

I seemed to be in Paris at the right time, as there were brocante’s around every corner. I set out with my son-in-law and daughter, or my French family and we would stroll the markets and they would haggle for me in French.

I found a few vintage dolls to add to my growing collection.

A Brittany lady

and chimney sweep.

This one is ceramic and plays music. Probably 1960’s, 70’s, maybe earlier, haven’t researched her yet.

Old tins are always my favorite’s for storing art materials in the studio.

An authentic antique,1900’s, French consomme, or gravy spoon. Made from brass and has a stunning ceramic handle, painted with flowers tapering down to a decorative brass area

I also noticed, if I mentioned I was Australian I was given things for a lot less.  At one stall i was given freebies. Aussies must have been flavour of the month.

Vintage Bric a Brac. This Moroccan ceramic container has a beautiful, muted green-grey luster glaze and gold lustre on the tip of the lid.

Bundles of old music and magazines are everywhere. I always come home with a load. Some are very fragile and over 100 years old. I use them in my artwork, as well as, I list them in my vintage shop sometimes. Ateliernostalgi

This little beauty will be staying with me for awhile. Not bad for 7EU (9AU).

This is a souvenir of Syracuse. This paper manufactured only at Syracuse is identical to the Egyptian Papyrus used by the Pharaohs. Papyrus is the rarest and most esteemed relic of the ancient civilization.  It comes with guarantee certificate on the back.

I found these antique lace collars and linens in a box of newer stuff. It always, pays to scrounge through all boxes to find hidden gems.

More bric a brac.  A cute trio of blue glaced ceramic animals. A gorgeous stylized bird, little pig scattered with flowers and teeny- tiny frog.

Last, a little Jewellery box filled with old Asnieres train tickets. The jewelry box is from a jewellery store in Asnieres, no longer around. It has writing inside with the name and address of the jeweler’s.

A little collage created from a vintage Australian recipe books and pieces of hand painted papers, wooden ice cream stick painted and washi tape.

IMG_20131201_120505s

As a child I can remember going on long trips to Melbourne by train . For lunch we would go to Coles cafeteria for a delicious ice cream sundae with fruit, jelly and lashings of chocolate or strawberry syrup.  Topped off with nuts, cream and fruit.
